Spring Hill Kitchen

On the wish list for this Mountain Brook couple was a custom kitchen renovation that combined modern functionality with timeless style. They wanted a blend of modern yet classic finishes, an open floor plan, contemporary appliances, and—most importantly—a statement bar for the husband who fancies himself a mixologist.
After a thorough review of the existing space and layout, the homeowners and builder determined that a larger opening to the living room would foster greater family connection. By keeping the kitchen sink under the window and relocating the range across the kitchen, they created a new central axis floor plan centered around a large island—perfect for cooking, entertaining, and daily life.
To achieve the desired open-concept design, the builder temporarily supported the second-level floor system and installed a new structural beam. Framing enhancements included arched openings, floating wing walls flanking the range, and restructured stairs—creating space for a fully integrated bar in what was once a dead zone.
New oak hardwood floors replaced outdated 12x12 porcelain tile, creating a seamless connection between the kitchen, living room, and main level. Custom inset cabinetry elevated the overall aesthetic, while a combination of black soapstone and white Carrara marble countertops delivered the perfect balance of classic and contemporary.
The GE Monogram Pro Series 36” range, nestled under a decorative hood with recessed spice shelves, provided professional-grade performance. Dual dishwashers made cleanup easy for this couple raising twin boys. A built-in Fisher Paykel refrigerator, concealed behind cabinet panels, maintained a sleek, uninterrupted look.
The bar—now a showpiece in the home—features floating shelves, an antiqued mirror backsplash, and an under-counter wine cooler and beverage fridge. This Mountain Brook kitchen renovation and bar addition is a prime example of high-end design-build execution tailored to modern living.
