Delmar Terrace

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. For a young couple with a growing family, that meant seizing an irresistible offer on their home and finding a new one in their beloved Mountain Brook neighborhood. The catch? The new house was smaller, outdated, and didn’t meet their needs. The solution: renovate and add on—with the help of a trusted custom home builder in Mountain Brook, Alabama.
They transformed a 1,250 SF, 3-bedroom, 2-bath home into a spacious 4-bedroom, 4.5-bath, 3,500 SF residence with a large back porch perfect for entertaining. Retaining the structurally sound “private side,” they demolished the failing “public side” to make way for a new addition—preserving the home’s historic charm, including a front sitting room fireplace wrapped in Alabama white marble. The redesign also featured a steeper roofline to create a seamless blend of old and new construction.
Inside, the open-concept layout connects the kitchen, living room, dining area, and wet bar—ideal for family-friendly living. A former small dining room was reimagined as a kids' playroom with double pocket doors for flexible use. The kitchen includes a large Montclair Danby marble island, custom inset cabinets, ample built-in storage, and a hidden coffee bar. The adjacent wet bar makes winding down easy, with drinks always ready for the back porch.
This Mountain Brook custom home renovation is a testament to thoughtful design, craftsmanship, and the value of working with a skilled design-build team in Birmingham’s premier suburbs, including Homewood, Vestavia Hills, and Mountain Brook.
