Altadena Forrest Remodel

Altadena Forest Remodel – Whole Home Renovation in Vestavia Hills, AL
This 1960s home nestled in the forest was transformed by a designer-builder couple into their modern dream home—balancing original character with intentional, functional updates. Located in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, the renovation was a full reimagining of the existing layout, completed without expanding the home's footprint.
The new floor plan eliminated walls in the main living spaces, vaulted ceilings in the living room, and added a new stairwell location to improve circulation and unlock a more efficient design. The result: an open-concept kitchen, dining, and living space filled with natural light and forest views. Custom cabinetry and a square central island anchor the kitchen, which includes new appliances, expanded counter space, and a thoughtful flow for everyday living and entertaining.
Key upgrades included:
- New powder room and basement-level guest bath
- Redesigned master suite with a marble-accented walk-in shower and slate herringbone floors
- Kid-friendly bathroom updates with durable, low-maintenance materials
- Energy-efficient LED lighting, under-cabinet lighting, and dimmable fixtures throughout
- Refinished hardwood flooring, seamlessly laced in where needed
- Custom reclaimed wood hood, white tile backsplash, and dark hardware for modern contrast
Historic bricks—originally salvaged from a Bessemer warehouse—were reused during entry modifications, preserving the unique architectural legacy of the home.
